Sites and labels

Organize devices, dashboards, media and tours by site, folder and label

PNeX organizes the objects of an organization in two independent ways: where they are (a site and its folders) and what they are (free labels). No hierarchy is imposed: a site can stay flat, or be split into buildings, floors and rooms.

The Sites page

Monitor › Sites lists every site of the organization and what it holds: folders, devices, dashboards, media and tours. A site is a point of interest of the map: Map view opens the map, List view on the map comes back here. New site creates one.

Opening a site shows the same drawer as on the map:

  • Folders: + Folder creates a folder ("Building A", "Floor 2", "Plant room"…), nested as deep as you like. Objects are arranged by drag and drop; deleting a folder moves its content back to the site root, nothing is deleted. A folder cannot be dropped into itself.
  • Attached objects: + Attach an object offers media, tours, dashboards and devices. A device has a single placement (moving it elsewhere asks for confirmation); a media item, tour or dashboard can appear on several sites.
  • Preview: an object can be pinned as the default preview of the site.

Location breadcrumb

The device and media details, the dashboard editor and the tour editor show a Location breadcrumb: Site › folder › folder. Each step reopens the Sites page on that site; an object placed nowhere shows Not placed on any site yet. and an Open Sites link.

Labels

Labels are name:value pairs (or a bare name): site:greenhouse, zone:north, critical. The name uses lowercase letters, digits, _ or -. They are edited in the details of devices, media, sites and folders.

The device, flow, dashboard, tour and media lists have a Filter by label filter (type site:greenhouse). It matches effective labels: the object's own plus those inherited from the folders and site containing it, the nearest one winning. Labelling a "Greenhouse" folder is therefore enough to find everything inside it.

Labelling or arranging a device never touches its firmware or configuration: it is an organization layer, server-side only.
