Introduction

What PNeX is and why it exists

Early beta (0.1.0)

PNeX is in beta — very much so. Most features are maintainer-tested on a real bench, none are community-validated yet. Great for testing and contributing; don't run a critical process on it yet. See the roadmap for the real state of each feature.

PNeX (Platform Nexus) is an open-source industrial IoT and SCADA platform written entirely in Rust. It is the crossroads of the tools industrial teams already know — the device management of ThingsBoard, the firmware experience of ESPHome, the visual flow programming of Node-RED — rebuilt as a single, coherent, memory-frugal product with an integrated AI assistant.

The short version

  • One platform, one language. The server, the apps (web, Linux, Windows, Android), the flow runtime, the firmware tooling and the thermophysics engine are all Rust, in a single workspace.
  • Self-hosted, two tiers. Run it on a single SQLite file for a workshop, or scale to PostgreSQL with S3-compatible object storage for a plant.
  • Three ways to drive devices. Today, connected mode: flows drive devices through the server, for non-critical uses. Coming: autonomous devices that get their configuration cast from PNeX and keep regulating — and collecting metrics — through server or internet outages. Later: a device-to-device mesh (zenoh-pico, OpenThread) whose topology is configured in PNeX.
  • AI built in, not bolted on. An integrated assistant reads your telemetry, drafts flows, and helps write functions — inside the app.

Who is it for?

  • Makers and home users who want to wire an ESP32, automate it and see their data on their own server — no vendor cloud, no subscription.
  • Teams that run industrial processes, energy systems, or building fleets, and who want the whole stack — device to dashboard — without assembling five different products and their YAML files.
